Give your teeth the long life they deserve! Fill your cavities with tooth coloured restorations!
What are tooth coloured restorations?
Tooth coloured restorations are also known as tooth coloured dental fillings. These are made up of a tooth coloured composite resin that is mouldable.
Tooth coloured restorations can be used to help repair and restore a tooth that is cracked, damaged, broken or decaying.
It can be a much better and healthier choice of fillings when compared to the amalgam silver fillings.
When are tooth coloured restorations needed?
While doing your dental check-up, a small mirror will be used by the dentist to examine the surface areas of your teeth.
This examination is done to help the dentist identify any teeth that are decaying or broken.
The dentist will then determine if a tooth coloured restoration is the best option for you if any decaying was detected.
What is involved in the restoration of a tooth?
- A local anaesthetic will be used by our dentist to first numb the area of the mouth where the tooth needs to be restored.
- Tooth decay will be removed and cleaned out from the tooth that needs restoring.
- Once our dentist has cleaned out the decay, a decay detecting agent will be used to stain to the tooth and probe the area for any remaining decay.
- The dentist will then clean the cavity of any bacteria and prepare the tooth for the restoration.
- A special light will be used to harden the tooth coloured material as it is applied in layers onto the tooth.
- Once this is done the composite material is then shaped, trimmed and polished.
What should I expect after the procedure?
At first, your mouth will still be numbed from the anaesthetic for about two to three hours after the procedure. Try not to bite or chew on the area that is numbed.
You may experience some tooth sensitivity to things that are hot or cold after the restoration, however, this will eventually settle down in most cases.
We recommend that you contact us at Inala Plaza Dental Clinic if you experience extreme sensitivity, notice a sharp edge or find a gap in your tooth restoration.
